We've been arguing for a while here on techPresident that the candidate who best used the internet to enable his supporters to join in co-creating the campaign would have a big edge come November. Now we're seeing what Isaac Garcia, CEO of Central Desktop, called the rise of the "long tail of politics": tremendous metrics as the Obama get-out-the-vote operation goes into the final stretch. Those numbers include 50,000 new events organized using myBO in the last three weeks, at least 20,000 neighborhood team leaders, 1.9 million newly registered voters, and 13.3 million voter contacts.
Are we seeing the birth of a new kind of mass, networked political mobilization happening before our eyes? That's the argument made by Isaac Garcia, CEO of Central Desktop, which has been working with the Obama campaign helping manage its thousands of grassroots volunteers.
In case you missed it, last night Rudy Giuliani made a virtual appearance in over 1,000 homes during his "National House Party Night." (You can watch the archived webcast here.)
Let's dig in...
True Story: I went back to Ohio this past week. One of my friends, Chris, told me that he had donated to Barack Obama -- the first time he had ever donated to a candidate or cause. I asked him how much and he said $15. I also asked if he planned to give again. His answer: Every month until Barack is President.
Chris is part of the Long Tail I keep talking about.
