Today John Edwards is launching a contest called My Vote, My Voice, which gives Edwards supporters the chance to create their own ads for the campaign. While it should generated plenty of participation from supporters, it could benefit from a more transparent selection process. I spoke to Elizabeth Edwards this morning, and she provided some more details.

Last week Slate’s Mike Reed produced a video on Mitt Romney’s create-your-own-ad Jumpcut site that jabbed at Romney and a story he told his son, Tagg. It tells the tale of a young Tagg Romney, who, thinking he might like to be a Democrat, learned from his dad that Democrats want gay marriage. “No way!,” Tagg said. In this retelling, Reed has Romney respond, “Way!”

It's been about a week since Mitt Romney's campaign launched the most interactive experiment of any we've seen come from the Republican side of the presidential field, calling on their supporters to submit 30- or 60-second TV ads, mashing up a rich array of clips, audio and photos provided by the campaign.

It's a smart way for the campaign to engage grass-roots supporters, and to also erase any memories people may have of Romney's reluctance to participate in the Republican YouTube debate. And, as a number of observers predicted, it's also a bit of a double-edged sword.
