But Will Gov. Brewer Interrupt Speeches for a Pledge Drive?

A catchphrase among online political consultants is that the Internet is more than an ATM machine, but deposits and withdrawals seem to be good enough for Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) and other lawmakers in her state.
After Brewer's administration raised a reported $3.7 million in donations to defend a federal challenge to the state's controversial immigration law, SB 1070 — remember, the one that requires police to check the immigration status of people stopped for other purposes, the one so incendiary that parts of the law are on hold pending action in federal court? — lawmakers there are planning to raise money online to build more fence along the border with Mexico, according to a wire-service-backed item in the New York Daily News.
The state government's donation page for the SB1070 defense reports that nearly $1.6 million has been donated online by 34,260 people.
Yesterday, you may have heard, President Barack Obama was in El Paso, Tex. to promote his own immigration reform policies — but he wasn't asking the Internet for cash to fund them.
... Yet?
