When Facebook Meets 311

Allowing citizens to report 311-type issues like potholes and graffiti on Facebook has persuaded them to get more involved, city officials from Burleson, Tex., told GovTech.
Burleson recently launched an app called Citizen Request Tracker, which allows users who install it on their Facebook profiles to submit and track service requests:
Sally Ellertson, public information officer of Burleson, revealed that since the city launched its new website last year — which also included the ability to report issues to the city online — in combination with the CRT app and an iPhone version of the CRT app the city uses, she’s seen a big uptick in the amount of citizens contacting Burleson with requests, ranging from code enforcement incidents to animal services.
Other cities, including San Francisco, Calif., offer the ability to report and track service requests on Facebook.
