Playing Citizen-Redistricter in the District

BY Nancy Scola | Friday, March 25 2011

The 2010 U.S. Census data that will power redistricting efforts across the U.S. dropped yesterday. It's cliched, but true, to say that we, normal folk, have more powerful tools to work with and interpret that data than was the case in any census in American history. Check out, for example, Greater Greater Washington's remarkable new Redistricting Game, which proves that DIY border-drawing can be both productive and kinda fun. The rules are delightfully clear, and once you build a map, out pops a link you can use to share your map around.
