The GovLoop Story

Steve Ressler explains to the Washington Post's Lillian Cunningham why, while working in the Department of Homeland Security, he felt inspired to build GovLoop.com, a connective platform for government types. "Basically," says Ressler, "people [in government] feel very isolated," trapped in the silos formed by their offices or agencies, and unable to make the connections with other government folks that might foster the creation of good ideas. There's a chance that the insulation felt from inside DHS, the FCC, the State Department what-have-you is put in sharper relief by the fact that the rest of the world (or at least the Washington portion of it) is getting more and more networked. But that's just a maybe.
Ressler's running GovLoop independently while a quote-unquote official attempt to build a networking space for federal employees, FedSpace, is being shuttered due to cuts to federal electronic government funding.
