Ben Scott, one of Hillary Clinton's former innovation advisors at the State Department, has joined the New America Foundation.

Scott will be based in Berlin, where he is currently a visiting fellow at the German think tank Stiftung Neue Verantwortung, New America said in a press statement.

New America said that Scott will provide "strategic guidance and expertise on Internet freedom and other technology policy issues." More specifically, he'll be working with New America's Vice President and Open Technology Institute Director Sascha Meinrath. Meinrath directed the "Internet in a suitcase" project that was financed by a $2 million grant from State last year.

While at State, Scott helped to develop the department's 21st Century Statecraft agenda, which factors in technology and networks into traditional foreign service work.

Scott is perhaps best known for his tenure as policy director at at the communications non-profit Free Press, where he led its campaign to press the Federal Communications Commission and Congress to enact policies that would ensure that network operators would treat all content the same.
