U.S. State Dept. Creates New Online Animation "Behind The Electronic Curtain," Targeting Iran

The State Department on Friday started promoting a new cartoon it created highlighting Iran's online system of censorship. It started promoting the video on Twitter in English, Chinese, Farsi and Arabic with the hashtag #ConnectIran.

Iran has long filtered the web for its citizens, but The Wall Street Journal reported mid-March that Iran's government had stepped up its efforts by creating the "Supreme Council of Cyberspace," with its own budget and offices. It will be composed of the country's "heads of intelligence, militia, security and the powerful Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, as well as media chiefs."

Iran also has, nevertheless, historically had a thriving blogosphere.
