Gingrich Savvy On Facebook, Says Company's Political Team

Since Facebook users are more politically involved than their non-Facebook using counterparts in the United States, politicos are wise to find creative ways to engage their "fans" on the social network.

The Facebook political team on Monday picked out a few politicos they think are using the platform particularly well to engage their intended audience.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich won points for using WayIn, a polling application, as well as providing a tab that enables potential volunteers to find campaign-related events.

"Remember," wrote the Facebook team. "a cool application or an engaging tab is useless unless you promote it to your fans and explain why they should engage."

The current House Speaker isn't a slouch either, said Facebook's political team.

Rep. John Boehner, (R-Ohio) is encouraging his colleagues to publicize the party's jobs plan on Facebook by sharing members' speeches and related legislative activity on the platform.

Other politicos who got shout-outs were Texas State Senator Ted Cruz, who the Facebook team said has built an impressive fan base of 68,000 supporting his bid for the U.S. Senate, and Rep. Sandy Levin, (D-Mich.) who used an unnamed app to interact with and publish the stories of economic woes of his constituents.
