Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn Joins Twitter

BY Nick Judd | Monday, July 11 2011

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has joined Twitter:

Governor Pat Quinn today launched official Twitter and Flickr pages to provide Illinois residents with yet another way to access and communicate with state government. Governor Quinn’s new social media sites will be regularly updated with the latest state news and videos, as well as the Governor’s own tweets (marked as “-GOV”). The Governor will also use Twitter to seek feedback and ideas from people throughout Illinois.

In a note of irony, Quinn's Flickr page asserts copyright over all the photos hosted there — meaning I'm not sure anyone without the permission of Quinn's office would be legally allowed to use one in, say, a post covering the arrival of @governorquinn.

Illinois also has a new open data portal, a site to track employee salaries and other spending and disclosure data, and its largest city, Chicago, is going digital with data at a rapid pace.

So far, Quinn has tweeted for himself just the once.
