For the Group that Hacked After a Wikileaks Documentary, the Media are Fair Game

BY Nick Judd | Tuesday, May 31 2011

Forbes' Parmy Olson has an interview today with a member of the online group, LulzSec, that hacked over the weekend. Here's the words of a LulzSec member going by "Whirlpool," per Olson:

Whirlpool says it’s a “fair assessment” for people to look at LulzSec’s cyber attack on PBS and call it illegal and wrong, but retorts, “do what you want ’cause a pirate is free, you are a pirate.” He then provided a link, over IM, to a YouTube clip of the children’s TV show Lazy Town.

LulzSec attacked the public broadcaster's website in retaliation for a Frontline piece on Bradley Manning and Wikileaks. They compromised the site and repeatedly inserted their own content on, including a story asserting that long-deceased rapper Tupac Shakur was discovered to be living in New Zealand.
