Amongst the criticisms of the plan to expand the emergency alerts system to mobile phones is that if the special alarm sounded while you were in your car, in 31 states and the District of Columbia, it'd be illegal to check it while driving. Aha.
There's also a slightly more nuanced critique in the piece: in an age where news flows through the social sphere, a blast mechanism from the powers-that-be might not be as necessary as it once was.
