Tweeting for Leadership
BY Nancy Scola | Friday, November 5 2010
Speaker (for now) Nancy Pelosi seems to have chosen Twitter as the place to make known her plans for what's next. "Driven by the urgency of creating jobs & protecting #hcr, #wsr, Social Security & Medicare, I am running for Dem Leader," tweeted (@SpeakerPelosi) earlier this afternoon. (Translation: "#hcr" is health care reform, and "#wsr" Wall Street reform.) She later confirmed her intentions in a statement.
And, in fact, Twitter is becoming quite the place to keep up on the jockeying for leadership positions in the new Democratic House minority.
Tweeted current Leader Steny Hoyer (@LeaderHoyer) just before 2 p.m. EST today, "Members have asked me to stay in Leadership. I'll spend the next few days getting their thoughts on serving as Minority Whip."
But hang on a minute -- at about the same time, this came from the account of now-Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (@WhipClyburn): "I'm running for Whip because I believe we can do what Democrats have done twice before, Win back the House in two years."
Once the dust settles, at least two will have to change their Twitter handles.
