Clearing the Cache: Taping Tancredo, Incredulity
BY Nancy Scola | Monday, July 12 2010
- Former Colorado Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo got recorded on videotape at a Ken Buck for Senate outdoor rally saying that the greatest threat to the United States going these days is President Barack Obama. (Just after the 14 minute mark.) The tape hasn't made much of a splash, but it's worth watching for what else it captured: the look on Buck's face as Tancredo spoke. Buck later told The Hill, "I think he tends to exaggerate sometimes," and he's got video evidence that, at least, he seemed to be thinking the same thought at the time.
- You might know Justin Krebs for his work as co-founder of Drinking Liberally, the social/political network that spawned the broader Living Liberally enterprise. You might know him, even, as the author of the new book, "538 Ways to Live Work and Play Like a Liberal." You might not know that he's the subject of the latest Weekly Standard cover story, by Matt Labash. Say one thing for the piece, in Labash, Krebs found himself one committed reader.
- Montana Republicans fire up the ol' search engine to figure out that a new volunteer was, in fact, a Democratic field staffer. He's since been let go by the Montana Democratic Party.
- Voter Activation Network teams up with a voter file and consumer data provider to launch the all-in-one SmartVAN.
- This new website from Labour leader (UK) candidate Diane Abbott features an attention-grabbing technique that's new on me. Jon Worth, self-described Social Democrat, explains here why he built the site for Abbott, part of a group of Labour MPs who consider themselves to the left of much of the rest of the Labour Party. (Also, here's a short 2009 tP interview with Worth on where the EU meets the political blogosphere.)
- Chuck Todd on Sarah Palin, via Greg Sargent: "[I]t is amazing the ability this woman has to get media attention with as little as she does, whether it's a Twitter or a Facebook update."
