Good for Biden, good for Bill White

BY Nancy Scola | Thursday, December 3 2009

Houston's Democratic mayor Bill White is this close to making a decision on whether he'll throw his hat into the ring for the Texas governor's race. Taking a page from the Obama playbook, White's campaign offering up first notice of his decision. All you have to do is pass along your mobile phone number. His daughter, Elena White, emails:

Dear Friend,

Since my dad announced he would consider running for Governor last week, thousands and thousands of Texans have contacted him -- via the website, e-mail, and Facebook -- to share their thoughts about our state's future. These messages came from the people that my dad strives to work for from across the state. Educators, businessmen and women, public servants, working parents, farmers, retirees, and others shared their thoughts and insights. We spent most of our Thanksgiving huddled over our computers reading and responding to the messages as a family. He said he'd make his final decision by Friday, and you can be the first to know about it by signing up for text message alerts.

Just text "JOIN" to TEXAS (83927) to sign up to receive a text message with my dad's decision. Or, sign up online.
