Who is Chris Dodd?

Chris Dodd Daily Show imageAsk anyone I know and they'll tell you that I abhor Comedy Central's Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He's just too, too, too out there for me. I'm much more of a Stephen Colbert fan.

But, I get it. People like him. Especially young, liberal voters.

Last night Chris Dodd did something pretty unique on Jon Stewart's show. He gave us a sneak-peak behind Stewart's show.

According to the Washington Post:

Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) appeared on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" last night for a few minutes of witty banter, following what is becoming a well-worn path laid by candidates trying to reach a younger audience.

But before the "Daily Show" camera in New York started rolling, Dodd's team had its own cameras filming.

The campaign put up a Web page yesterday afternoon to bring visitors behind the scenes at the show. At four, Dodd was filmed prepping with his communications director Beneva Schulte for the interview.

"You'd hardly know you were walking into the Daily Show from looks outside the building," the Web site said. "A non-descript "607" awning hangs atop a door leading backstage."

Later, a video was posted of Stewart visiting Dodd in the show's green room, along with several behind-the-scenes photos.

"We thought it was an innovative and creative way to allow people ... to come along and have a backstage pass to the show," said Schulte.

The fact that I'm just now hearing about this from a Republican tipster probably says something about Dodd's impact in general, but I'd still dish out a helping of porridge for this performance. At least he's trying.

Thoughts?

But Dodd kinda stunk it up

Stewart was kind a jerk to Dodd... he kept asking him when he was going to drop out of the race. The whole think was kind of an embarassment for Dodd. But hey, I guess he gets points for showing up.

Dodd on the Daily Show

Our guy Stas, from ChristopherDoddQuest.com: "Christopher Dodd was on Comedy Central’s Daily Show with Jon Stewart. I watched Senator Dodd’s preparation for the show. I rather liked his humor in saying that his polling numbers are competing with the margin of error. Another great point Dodd made was that Bill Clinton and John Kerry had equally low poll numbers even later in their campaigns.

When Chris Dodd finally reached Stewart’s desk, he got the usual reception. Stewart, implying that Dodd wasn’t a candidate, asked him for some advice for Clinton and Obama. Dodd’s response was, “take a long vacation.” All in all, Dodd handled himself very well and got some of his message out. Let’s hope he doesn’t suffer the same fate as Vilsack, dropping out 2 weeks after his Daily Show appearance. Stewart did make Dodd promise to return after he dropped out of the race."
