I just received a note from President Bush's eGuru, David Almacy, alerting me to check out The White House's new and improved website at whitehouse.gov.
The note:
You may have noticed that the White House web site has a new look. This week, visitors to WhiteHouse.gov will find an updated design with improved access to information about the President’s speeches, events and policies. Additional features include news feed subscriptions, Weekly E-mail Updates, audio Podcasts and On Demand video.
Basically, upgrades were made to streamline the code, refresh the design and better highlight features. The functionality of the site is still the same. Nothing was removed from the site.

Obviously, the upgrade is a big step for The White House. We're getting closer to having the first "blogging President," but we're not there yet.
Thoughts on the new website? Areas for improvement? Keep your comments thoughtful please.

Square Corners!
Pffft. Shows you how much they know. (No offense meant to the operator of this site which also happens to have square corners).
Seriously though, I don't see anything really different other than the layout and arrangement. The RSS selection is the same and in the same formats. The audio is still linked to a file and doesn't allow to be played inline. Both of those things I have actually been impressed with in the past, haven't seen a need for them to change them at all anyway.
What I like:
_The colors
_The header
_The textured background in the blocks
_The new icons
What I dislike:
_The font size
_The lack of a customized WH homepage
_They seemed to ignore some accessibility issues for the disabled
How was that for thoughtful?
