And the Apps Keep Rolling In: Democratic National Convention Latest to Go Mobile

This Tuesday, the Democratic National Convention became the latest of the 2012 election vehicles to go mobile, jumping on the bandwagon with the Romney campaign’s “Mitt’s VP” app and the Obama campaign’s “Obama 2012” app. The “DNC 2012” app is Apple iOS and Android-compatible and available as of this morning.
While there is an expected element of self-promotion to the app— a "social" tab with tweets from the DNC, @DemConvention and the Convention Hosting Committee, @Charlottein2012, a page for DNC press releases, a link to the online store and donation page—there are also several genuinely helpful features. A map page orients you around the convention grounds and highlights nearby restaurants and hotels. The media page promises to have a live stream up and running during the convention days.
DNCC CEO Steve Kerrigan called the DNC 2012 app “another step in making this the most open and accessible convention in history”. The 2012 Democratic National Convention will take place from September 3rd to the 6th.
The Hill reports that the Republican National Convention has a mobile app “coming soon”, hopefully soon enough to meet their August 27th deadline.
