Tools You Use: Chuck DeFeo on Spredfast

BY Personal Democracy Plus | Monday, July 16 2012

For Personal Democracy Plus subscribers, techPresident is asking some of the folks out there on the leading edge of digital politics and government to point out just one tool or service that has become a mainstay, a must-use or just incredibly helpful in their work. There's one rule: It can't be something the person has built or the person's company is selling. We're asking folks to pay some karma forward here and highlight an innovation coming from elsewhere that makes their work easier.

Chuck DeFeo is a digital media strategist currently managing digital for the American Center for Law and Justice. Here are his lightly edited comments on Spredfast, a social media engagement and analytics tool.

1. What's the tool/service?

Spredfast, a tool for social media engagement and analytics on our owned social media.

2. What do you use it to do?

We use Spredfast to measure and maximize engagement on our owned social media. Spredfast is an enterprise level, self-serve social media CRM product but the company also has a highly talented strategy
group that you can utilize if needed. The product offers dozens of different real-time analytics that can be
customized into your own dashboard so you can align it with your social media goals and objectives.

3. How is it changing your work or making your life as a digital professional that much easier?

The product has significantly improved our workflows as well to allow us to maintain a larger social media footprint with a small staff.

The deep analytics capabilities have enabled us to take multiple analytics data points: timing, frequency, length, and apply them to topics, days of the week, day part, call to action, etc. – to know what works best when and how. We’re not only getting the reach metrics typical of social but we are getting the clicks and conversion metrics as well.

Spredfast won't replace a social media listening product like Radian6 but it is one of the best engagement products I have seen out there.
