Issa's Still Sour On SOPA
BY Nick Judd | Tuesday, December 13 2011
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) issued a statement today restating his opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act. Its chief sponsor, Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Tex.), has introduced a manager's amendment that would alter the controversial anti-piracy legislation; Issa doesn't think it's enough.
Here's Issa, from a press release:
"The manager's amendment retains the fundamental flaws of its predecessor by blocking Americans' ability to access websites, imposing costly regulation on web companies and giving Attorney General Eric Holder's Department of Justice broad new powers to police the internet."
Issa and Sen. Ron Wyden will on Wednesday introduce alternative legislation, the text of which they debuted online on a microsite, KeepthewebOPEN.com.
