Blogs competing with trad media (film at 11)

BY Christian Crumlish | Friday, March 25 2005

The Project for Excellence in Journalism, a research institute affiliated with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts, has released a State of the Media, 2005 report. Among other things, it notes that blogs represent a faster, cheaper, if less accurate, alternative to traditional journalism, "with its focus on substantiating facts."

Pew's press release identifies the challenge from blogs with "a new philosophy: publish first and assume the verification process will occur in the response and argument that follow."
