A New YouTube Scandal and A Fast-Growing Facebook Group
By Fred Stutzman, 04/05/2007 - 11:39am

Two quick snippets from around the web:

Via YouTube Most Popular, a video of students at American University protesting presidential adviser Karl Rove. The video, unbearably blurry, shows students clashing with police outside a Karl Rove event. Embedding of the video is unfortunately disabled, so you'll have to click on over to see the video.

There's also been remarkable growth on an anti-Hillary Clinton Facebook group. In the past few days Stop Hillary Clinton: (One Million Strong AGAINST Hillary) has added over 20,000 members, bringing its total membership to just shy of 150,000. The group's mission is excerpted below:

Democrats, Republicans, and Independents can now unite behind a single cause- that of ensuring Hillary Clinton is not elected President of the United States.

Whether you are supporting Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney, John Edwards or Barack Obama a single goal exists, to ensure that another Clinton is not put into the White House.

Stephen DeMaura, the group's creator, has not replied to Techpresident's requests for comment.

Scandal? Please explain...

I just watched the YouTube video which is supposedly a protest of Karl Rove. The video and audio quality of that video are some of the worst I've ever seen and I find it difficult to find any value in watching it.

It's possible that video was just a crowd getting rowdy after Georgetown made the Final Four:

To your point

Yes, but how do we know that is a video of "a crowd getting rowdy after Georgetown made the Final Four?" The Hoya Saxa chant is about as clear as the crowd's screaming "Go to Jail Rove!" :) On the internet we sort of have to go with our best intuition. The fact the video made YouTube Popular, has been blogged many times, and does present interesting content (I must admit, the ferocity of Rove's booing by the crowd was sort of chilling), does lend it credit.

Of course, on the internet, verification of anything is quite difficult, so if the video does prove to be a hoax I will gladly issue a correction and apology.

Diane Rehm

Diane Rehm just covered this video - the story is the students were lying down in front of Rove's car. Here's some reports on the video:
