Web Helps Vets Get Quickie Benefits

It's nice to see the Internet help out in a pinch like this, isn't it? The Veterans Administration has slapped up an emergency website so that veterans who have applied for benefits under the post-9/11 GI bill but haven't yet gotten their payments can apply for an emergency check online, of up to $3,000, without having to travel to a VA office. The generous (with good reason) law went into effect last month, but the tremendous number of veterans who want to be students swamped the system. With tuition bills coming due and text books needing buying, though, the school-going soldiers need their money now. By applying online, says the VA, vets should have their stop-gap checks within a week.
The VA Advance Pay site isn't the least bit pretty, or flashy, or 2.0 in any way. But if it does the job, excellent. The Washington Post has more.
