Tweet Your Q for Robert Gibbs
BY Nancy Scola | Monday, January 3 2011
Have a question for White House press secretary Robert Gibbs? Now's your chance. Gibbs will be taking questions on Twitter, starting in the next few minutes. (Gibbs tweeted about 20 minutes ago, "hey everyone, looking forward to answering your questions but I'm running behind; going to be ~10 more minutes until I can get to my desk.")
Gibbs takes part in a White House series called "First Questions," where he takes questions from Twitter users, but answers them by video -- and only two or three at a pop. Unless he's a two-finger typer, there's a good chance that Gibbs will be able to get through more than that by keeping everything on Twitter.
Update: In the end, Gibbs fielded ten questions during his Twitter Q&A, on everything from raising the debt ceiling to whether he's gotten much use out of his "sweet new Trek bike."
Gibbs also responded to some constructive criticism about the structure of his Twitter engagement (a taste: "I don't want you filling up my twitter feed when i can simply go to your page and view the questions!!!!!! DON'T USE THE PERIOD!!!" -- where "the period" is a reference to the fact that Gibbs wasn't responding to his interrogators directly, but broadcasting his responses to all of the Twitter universe). Gibbs pointed folks with helpful suggestions to White House new media director Macon Phillips, or @macon44.
