Synder's New "Tough Nerd" Trick: Trading Volunteer Activity for a Role in the Campaign
BY Nancy Scola | Thursday, February 18 2010
Rick Snyder, Republican candidate for Governor in Michigan, is adding a collaborative twist to his "One Tough Nerd" campaign.
In a new contest called "Pick Rick's Ad," fans of Snyder can bank points by participating in his campaign by, for example, registering for an account on the his website, bringing others to the campaign, and donating money. Snyder supporters can then "spend" those points to vote to put one of two potential TV commercials on the air.
No matter how many points you rack up for Rick, you're out of luck if you're not fans of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Warren Buffett. The bespectacled trio are celebrated in both ads as nerds worth emulating.
