A Plea for Content-Blind 'Net Freedom
BY Nancy Scola | Monday, March 14 2011
Several big names in the Internet politics space are joining together today to co-sign an "Open Letter to Congress About Internet Freedom" to protest the Hill's possible reallocation of millions of dollars away from the State Department's efforts and towards propagandistic (in its non-judgmental sense) outlets like Voice of America and Radio Free Europe. Those latter types of efforts, reads the letter are "different from the much broader United States policy of promoting global Internet freedom, which will be weakened if it is conflated with an attempt by the United States to define the content made available to people in repressive regimes."
