Open Data Makes Good Advertising for MTA

New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority is running an ad campaign on the city's subways bragging on the fact that the agency didn't make their own apps, and instead invited other folks to do it by opening up their data to outside developers.

"Our apps are whiz kid certified," goes the subway posters. "Instead of developing transit apps, we gave our info to the people who do it best. Search the web for 'NY transit apps' to see what we mean."

MTA announced back in January that it was switching to an open data policy; more on that move by MTA from Streetsblog here. (Running a Google search for "NY transit apps" doesn't, actually, turn up all that much. But a search for "New York City subway apps" is more fruitful.)
