News You Really Don't Need to Know About the Naming of Congressional Websites
BY Nancy Scola | Monday, March 29 2010
Here's an altogether useless bit of congressional web trivia to start our week off right. As it turns out, Rep. Randy Neugebauer, the Texas Republican whom you might know from his shout of "It's a baby killer!" during the health care debate, holds the distinction of being the one and only member of the House of Representatives whose official website URL is built around a member's first name alone.
Plenty of members use their first and last names in their official site addresses, like TammyBaldwin.House.gov. Many others riff off their last name alone, like Fudge.House.gov. And yet Neugebauer's official domain is, unique amongst his 436 House colleagues, simply based off his first name. Ergo, Randy.House.gov.
Why the distinction? Dunno. It's not like there was another Neugebauer crowding the space. But it seems like we've squandered away enough precious moments on this whole thing already.
