Ignite GOP

The Republican National Committee is hosting its own version of an O'Reilly Ignite event this Friday, with a day-long session at RNC headquarters given over to five-minute presentations on how the GOP can use technology to better its prospects. (Never let it be said that the RNC lacks a sense of humor. Noting the less than propitious date to start revitalizing the party, the event listing jokes "on Friday, Feb. 13 [yes, we know]...") Saul Anuzis, Michigan GOP chair who ran as the tech-savvy candidate in the recent RNC chair race and is now part of Michael Steele's transition team, tweeted that the event is "designed to first, get tons of ideas...then we'll set up an online discussion to get into the details."
The event invitation indicate that the tech topics to be covered Friday include "blog outreach, databases, email strategies, grassroots activism, mobile, online advertising, online fundraising, SEO/SEM, social networking, web development, widgets," and, of course, "other." Anyone with an idea can reserve a five-minute slot in which to make their case -- though holding an in-person event about two blocks south of the Capitol isn't likely going to do all that much to open up the GOP beyond Beltway regulars.
