House Republicans Kick Off New Media Tourney

BY Nancy Scola | Wednesday, April 21 2010

The Hill's Tony Romm reports that the House Republican Conference has this week kicked off a six-week March Madness-style "New Media Challenge." First up is a qualifying round where congresspeople attempt to rack up the most number of Twitter followers (the rules seem to stipulate new followers, so while early-adopters might be at a disadvantage, late-bloomers can still compete). Subsequent rounds, for those who qualify, will judge members on how many Facebook and YouTube fans they can acquire. After the championship round, we will finally know who the one true king or queen of new media in the House GOP caucus is.

According to the Twitter list being maintained for the challenge, 56 Republican reps are participating in the New Media Challenge. Only one will be left standing.
