Filling Out the New Media Ranks Beyond the White House

The Plum Line's Greg Sargent reports that Tracy Russo, former John Edwards campaign blog outreach coordinator, is headed over to the Department of Justice to serve as the DOJ's director of new media. Writes Sargent, "The hire reflects a recognition that some of the most important coverage of stories involving the Justice Department is taking place on the blogs." It's also a reflection of how the Obama White House has made a high priority of installing experienced and familiar online veterans beyond the White House throughout the executive branch -- recognizing that in many cases those government entities are in better positions than the White House to create change online. The White House new media team, headed by Macon Phillips has been hands-on in seeking out new media hires to head online operations throughout federal department and agencies.
