DIY Earmark Disclosure Hunting
BY Nancy Scola | Thursday, April 16 2009
The Sunlight Foundation needs some help, and here's why. Members of Congress had until last weekend to post the details of their earmark requests on their official congressional websites, under new disclosure rules out of Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office. Only the rules don't specify where or how the earmarks have to be posted online. Some members might put them front and center on their home page. Others, though, might have them tucked deep inside some website press section.
Sunlight staffers have dug through hundreds of member sites in search of the earmark disclosure postings. But when it comes to a few dozen members they're still not sure if the representatives neglected to post the required information, or if it's simply somewhere on their sites they overlooked.
Pick a member, ring up their office at the contact information provided, and then fill in Sunlight's web form letting them know what you found out.
