Chris Kelly Wants to Be Your AG. He Just Might Not Want to Be Your Friend.

The Democratic primary battle between Chris Kelly and Kamala Harris for the California attorney general nomination is fascinating in that the outcome stands to be influenced by whatever Mark Zuckerberg decides to do that day. Kelly was once a privacy officer for Facebook, and Harris, San Francisco's district attorney at the moment, has been attempting to use Facebook's privacy bungles and bumbles against Kelly. The New Yorker's Dana Goodyear has a nice look at the situation, where she notes that how Kelly himself uses the social network that started in a Harvard dorm six years ago is somehow a factor today in deciding who will be California's next chief lawyer. "My rule," says Kelly, "is that I do have to personally know someone in order for them to be my friend."
(A quibble -- the New Yorker seems to be using the date that an issue comes out as the posting date for what goes up online. June 7th hasn't happened yet. It's just not fair.)
