Carly Fiorina's Funky Flash
BY Nancy Scola | Wednesday, September 23 2009
Former HP CEO and possible Senate candidate Carly Fiorina has made some, well, interesting choices with her newly launched website at CarlyForCalifornia.com.
Fiorina, a Republican, has been considering a challenge to sitting Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer in 2010. A Flash splash screen breaks down how Fiorina is looking at the head-to-head matchup. "It's day & night," begins the welcome message. It continues: "It's dogs & cats. It's good vs. bad. It's Carly vs. Boxer." The message seems to be that if you're pro-sunlight, puppies, and innocent looking cherubs, then Fiorina's your choice for the United States Senate. Then again, this isn't exactly a statement of candidacy, as the "Coming soon?" that unfolds on the screen makes clear. The site's tag line of "Carlyfornia dreamin!!" has already spawned a hashtag.
The response from the Boxer campaign: "Um, meow?" (Kidding.)
The site is little more than a barebones placeholder at present, but the frankly goofy opening message perhaps isn't the best debut for Fiorina, who sticks out in many Americans minds for dragging down HP and and getting booted from her post on the McCain presidential campaign after saying that neither John McCain nor Sarah Palin were qualified to run a major American corporation. Jack & Jill Politics' Baratunde Thurston offers a viewing, along with some color commentary.
